ZERO'S DAY 40!

Zero surprised us with treats to celebrate his special day!
We LOVE marshmallows. . . AND Zero!

EHS HOMECOMING 2015

Waiting on the parade . . . and the candy!

So proud of our First Grade Crown Bearers!

FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION!

A visit from our local firefighters . . .
We talked about and practiced how to get out of our bedrooms safely.  Then, we had to tell them if we had a special meeting place!

Next, we went outside to go in the smoke trailer.
It looked like smoke, but it was just pretend smoke!

Afterwards, we were able to look at many of our different county and city firetrucks.  We saw lots of equipment and got to get into a couple of the trucks!
Then we saw and heard the lights and sirens!

Fire is a Friend, Fire is a Foe,
Be sure to watch it, so you'll know!

COWTOWN!

Our trip to COWTOWN began with a visit to a one room schoolhouse!  We sat in very different desks and did some spelling and math problems on little black slates!  The schoolhouse had its own big black stove and the students had hooks and a shelf, but not cubbies.

Next, we met a trapper and saw inside his log cabin and felt his buffalo hides!

On to Main Street, where we looked into many different shops and businesses . . .  carpentry, printing, and a chapel!

"She'll Be Com'in Round the Mountain When She Comes . . . ."

THE JAIL!  We decided not to STAY!  :-)

Then, we stopped at The General Store . . . . to see a "Walmart" from long ago!  We saw some white 'pans' that we thought were for cooking . . . but, they were chamber pots!  Not sure we really can imagine using one!  :-)

We left Main Street in Cowtown, and headed out to the farm to see how farmers lived long ago!  We were amazed at the dusty, dirt streets and the wooden sidewalks.

The Farmhouse
Working with bread dough and then washing our hands with the kitchen pump!

Trying out some of the toys that children loved long ago ...

Using a rope and cable to lift a hay bale!  Much harder than we thought!

Checking out the chickens . . .

What on earth is SORGHUM?
Sorghum is a cane plant that grows tall like corn.  The horse turns the grinder.  The syrup from the cane is sorghum!  It looks and tastes like molasses syrup!  Yum!

Now, back to town and a look at the Train Depot, the rail repair car, and the Livery Stable!

 Checking out the stagecoach . . .

.... and the covered wagon!  Wagon Ho-o-o-o-o !

Finally . . . LUNCH!!!  Yum!

After lunch we had a couple more stops to finish off our tour of Cowtown!

The WINDWAGON from the Wichita River Fest!  Cool!  Wish we could take a ride!

Look what we found in the middle of town!
Pumping water looked MUCH easier than it turned out to be!

This looks like something from music class!  Wonder if it works?

Next, we stopped at the Drug Store and saw bottles and bottles of old medicines.  We also saw where the pharmacist made medicine and pills.  We smelled some of the herbs that were used and saw how little pills were made in a wooden mold!  Upstairs we looked at the offices of a dentist and a doctor.  Very old and different from today!
The dentist's chair!

The we saw the Tailor's Shop where people came to have clothes made for them.

And last, we stopped to look in the newer log cabin where we saw many different animal pelts: beaver, coyote, fox, skunk, raccoon, and more!

Time to saddle up and take a ride . . . on our bus!
One last picture . . . with UNCLE SAM!  He wants YOU!

Let's ROLL  . . . !  Heading home!

FUN DAY!
